Your plans will fail every time if you never see them through to the end. This is a simple undeniable fact. Now that you have summoned The Courage to Dream and developed The Intelligence to Make a Realistic Plan it is the time for perseverance and self-discipline.
When we initially start out on the path of our dreams we are so fired up by the energy that following our dreams gives us. However, this initial burst of energy and focus is just that. Initial. It will never see you through to the end of your plan. And if you don’t see your plan through to the end you will never achieve your dreams.
“I do not think there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature.”
- John D. Rockefeller
So the final key is perseverance and self-discipline. Despite the joy and bursts of energy and enthusiasm that comes from walking the path of your dreams there will always be times when your energy gets low. These times are going to happen to you. They are inevitable. It is during these times that you will need to draw upon your will to persevere.
Just recently, for the first time in a long time, I became sick. For the past two weeks I’ve been sicker then I’ve been in years. I may have had pneumonia. I don’t really know because I didn’t go see a doctor. Either way it was bad. Regardless during the past two weeks I’ve written at least two articles per day and continued to promote this blog.
Now that I’m feeling better I’ve come out the other side with my momentum still going strong. As my normal energy levels return I feel a returning of my enthusiasm and feel fired up once again to continue to follow the plan I set myself.
If I hadn’t persisted at this critical stage in Balanced Existence’s life and growth it is probable that things would have stalled to some degree. Then I would have faced the task of having to get things moving again. It is easy to see how that could have resulted in despair and reduced confidence in my plan.
“So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.”
- Christopher Reeve
Next, we will conclude this article series by taking a look at some strategies that you can use to build the power of your will. That way when the inevitable tough times come you will be able to face them head on, persevere and achieve your dreams.

Great advice and glad you are feeling better. Reminds me of the saying “Inch by inch is a cinch. Yard by yard is hard.”
Sometimes we just have to take some time off and rest when we are sick, but usually there are simple low stress things like writing that can still be done on a daily basis.
