How to Overcome Your Shyness

How to overcome shyness is to realize shyness is not the opposite of confidence. If shyness does not feel like it is useful or you are unhappy with being shy or simply would like to try other ways of being then realize that behaving a certain way is no more than practice. Even becoming accustomed to the sense of unease that arises when one is doing something very new and challenging behaviorally is a matter of practice. Comfortable with the unease arising from stepping out of your behavioral patterns you step out of your past behavioral patterns more and more. Gradually your behavioral pattern becomes the constant expansion of behavior. Personal development occurs.

Sometimes I just put myself in situations that I am uncomfortable with (like public speaking), basically challenging any shyness away.

Hey Mike,
It’s funny how facing our fears chases fear away. I see fear as being very similar to worry. And I define worry as the thing we do about stuff that does not exist. Similarly, when we feel afraid we generally are not afraid of what is happening at the present moment. Yet the present moment is all there is. If something bad is happening in the present moment usually we do not have time to feel afraid and are just acting appropriately to resolve the situation.
