The Courage to Dream

This is the first in what will be a series of articles inspired by the powerful quote from Sidney A. Friedman.
“You can achieve anything you want in life if you have the courage to dream it, the intelligence to make a realistic plan, and the will to see that plan through to the end.”
- Sidney A. Friedman
We’ve all entertained fantasy daydreams at one time or another. Maybe we fantasized about what we would do if we won the lottery. How we would buy that huge house on the beach, a sleek new car, the long tropical island holiday. How we would be happy ever after. Such dreams are not the subject of this article series. I’m not going to discuss whimsical fantasies that come floating on a cloud to land in your lap.
What the coming series of articles inspired by the Sidney A. Friedman quote are concerned with is how you really can achieve anything you want in life. Please be assured. I’m not going to delude you and say it’ll be quick and easy.
“Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don’t recognize them.”
What I will tell you is that what looks like hard work to those on the outside looking in will feel effortless to you. To you the hard work your dreams will require to bring to fruition will be a joy. A passion.
In the end the journey will have more meaning then the destination. To some extent this is because there actually isn’t a final destination. The journey, all those hours, days weeks, months and years of hard work are the stuff your life is made of.
“The meaning of life is the celebration of it.”
- Lao Tzu
You don’t want to live your life wishing most of it away because it’s a boring drag. Instead you want to live with energy, vibrancy and passion. You want to touch the lives of others, know meaning, and experience a sense of peace, happiness and satisfied fulfillment. Come back tomorrow for the second part of this series where we will continue by examining exactly how such a life is possible.

I think that once people _accept_ that the truly important goals in life don’t come easy, are only achievable and a lot of effort, then maybe people will be more willing to put themselves on the path to where they want to be. Or at least maybe stop making such wishy washy goals.
Courage, intelligence, and will. I so very much love that quote!
